Some of them were over 30 years old, no longer able to meet today’s requirements in the field of container transport and unsellable on the market: three container gantries operated by EUROGATE Container Terminal Bremerhaven (CTB) and one from MSC Gate. Two of the gantries (8 and 9) are located at the southern end of the terminal; two others, gantries 14 and 15 slightly further north. Currently a specialist firm is contracted with disassembling the cranes. Friedrich Stuhrmann, commercial director of CTB, explains: “Scrapping the cranes brings numerous advantages. It will enable us to increase our flexibility as well as the availability of the quayside, and lower energy consumption and maintenance/servicing costs.”
