Thomas H. Eckelmann
Chairman of the Management Board
Thomas Eckelmann (born 1951) trained specifically with a view to taking over the management of the EUROKAI Group founded by his father. Before and during his business administration studies, which he took up at the University of Zurich in 1974, completing his degree in Hamburg in 1979, he gained practical experience in finances (Hamburgische Landesbank), international forwarding (Jacky Maeder/Zurich) and shipping (Brown, Jenkins/London). In 1980, Thomas Eckelmann joined the sales department of Eurokai KGaA. Two years later he was appointed to the Group Management Board of the company, taking over as Chairman on 3 August 1986. Since then he has developed EUROKAI beyond the boundaries of Hamburg to become an international container terminal group and built up an intermodal transport network. His biggest success has been the founding of the EUROGATE joint venture together with the BLG Logistics Group, whose major shareholder is the federal state of Bremen.
